Eye Treatments from L'OCCITANE

About L'OCCITANE's Immortelle

All four eye care products are from the L'OCCITANE Immortelle range. The L'OCCITANE Immortelle range is World famous and best sellers. They are made using the Immortelle flower is known as the "everlasting flower", which never fades, even after it has been picked. The Immortelle organic essential oil is known to be rich in active molecules with unique anti-ageing properties. In doing my research online, I came across many studies on the health benefits of the Immortelle Flower. The scientific name for this flower is the Helichrysum italicum. In some countries, the essential oil made from Helichrysum italicum has been taken as medicine! It is known to help with coughs and colds, heals wounds, treats skin inflammation, and even helps with digestive problems. It is known for its antimicrobial properties and anti-inflammatory properties (source link)

For over 18 years, L'OCCITANE has been working on its anti-ageing properties and has already filed six patents in France. This is what L'OCCITANE has to say about it:

"...offers the very best from its active ingredients (resistance to time and environmental aggressors). It also contains a high concentration of neryl acetate – a molecule that has an anti-ageing activity and has five patents in France.

Immortelle is the plant that keeps on giving. It continues to surprise L'OCCITANE, which calls on traditional methods and ancestral skills to extract its essential oil. Our team managed to capture the volatile molecules, so it can reach the core of immortelle. In our modern world, pollution has real impacts on our skin. Within the framework of a comprehensive study on pollution, our immortelle essential oil has shown to have twice the antioxidant power of Vitamin E.*" (source link)

L'OCCITANE uses only Immortelle that is organically and sustainably (it established a plantation programme in 2004 for organic cultivation of the flower.

Besides the eye care products you see here, L'OCCITANE has a much wider Immortelle range for the face. It is divided into three ranges: The Precious range; The Divine range and The Harmonie range. To see more, please click here.

L'OCCITANE Eye care super powered by Immortelle

Time of use for this review

I've been using both the L'Occitane Immortelle Precious Eye Balm and L'Occitane Immortelle Reset Eye Serum for about 6 weeks as my only eye care product. I used both the L'Occitane Immortelle Divine Eye Balm and L'Occitane Immortelle Divine Eye and Lips Contour for about 2 weeks as my only eye care products. I suffer from dark rings all around my eyes and occasionally some puffiness. I also had fine wrinkles under my lower lash line.

Price of the products

I personally feel that the Immortelle eye care range is reasonably priced (based on result and amount used). I've set out the AUD RRP below and linked each product to the L'OCCITANE webstore.

L'OCCITANE Immortelle Precious Eye Balm

I'll start first with L'OCCITANE Immortelle Precious Eye Balm and Immortelle Reset Eye Serum. The eye balm is more of a day cream and the serum is perfect for night time (when the skin is most active at renewing itself).

With each product, you really need to apply very little to get the benefits. For the eye balm, as it comes in a pot, just a touch of my fourth finger was enough for the areas above and below my eye. For the serum, I used one pump for both eyes.

Review of L'OCCITANE Immortelle Precious Eye Balm

When I first saw it, just based off its name, I assumed it would be blam-my in texture. Not true. It is actually a very light gel that is cool to touch.

It is meant to "the appearance of fine lines, puffiness & dark circles and fight the effects of daily aggressors." I have no way of measuring the fighting off of daily aggressors, but I can say that at about the second week in, I was noticing less fine lines below my lower lash line and a reduced appearance of the dark areas all around my eyes. Puffiness was also less visible on days that I used it. I did sometimes use a rose quartz roller to apply it and I think the rolling also helped with the puffiness.

There is a slight fragrance to it, derived from the natural ingredients it is made off. It has a fresh floral scent. I would say, it smells of the Immortelle flower.

This absorbs almost immediately into the skin. My skin just drank it up. That area felt refreshed, rejuvenated almost. It gives you that "cooling" feeling, which made me feel more awake. The area was left feeling smoother and looked more plump.

It also improved the performance of any makeup that I applied on top of it. Foundation/concealer/eyeshadows all applied much more smoothly and lasted longer. The eye area didn't look cakey or dry.

I would say based off this, the "moisturising/hydration" factor lasted for quite a few hours (from morning to when I took off my makeup at night). I just can't live without this now. The day doesn't start for me until I apply this.

The active ingredients in it are:

  • Corsican Immortelle essential oil, our anti-aging and antioxidant active responsibly sourced

  • A unique Hyaluronic Acid bonded to an essential mineral to plump up and hydrate the skin with benefits on skin renewal

  • Caffeine, known for its antioxidant properties.

L'OCCITANE Immortelle Reset Eye Serum

Review of L'OCCITANE Immortelle Reset Eye Serum

I think this is my favourite of the four. I do love all of them, but I'm like a magpie. I like shiny things and beautiful bottles and this hits the spot. Look at it!!! It looks like "skincare for goddesses". It is a stunning product and just looking at it makes me feel good. Packaging is also a part of the whole aesthetic experience for me.

The Immortelle Reset Eye Serum is used as a night time treatment (when your skin is in its renewal phase). It helps with dark circles, puffiness, fatigue & expression lines. I certainly feel like I wake up with rejuvenated eye area. Also noticeable improvement in dark circles, puffiness and the less noticeable little line below my lower lash line.

It is a lovely product to apply. As mentioned above, a little goes a long way. I use just one pump to cover both the areas around my eyes. It also has a fairly light fragrance, smelling of the Immortelle flowers.

The texture is very interesting. It comes out as a gel but with little bubbles filled with oil (please see texture shots below). I really like that. It makes the whole experience even more pleasing. Like the Eye Balm, this also feels very cooling on the skin.

L'OCCITANE describes it as:

"Neither gel, nor cream, nor balm, this eye treatment has a double delicate oil-in-serum texture that melts perfectly into the skin around the eyes."

L'OCCITANE also shows that this product has some really impressive stats when it comes to proven results. For example. After just 1 night of use:

  • 92% of women said they had a fresher-looking eye area

  • 79% of women said signs of fatique seems less visible**

  • 88% of women said their skin is comfortable**

For more stats, please click here.

I agree 100% with the above. For me, over the course of 6 weeks, the area around my eyes did become lighter, felt smoother and looked more refreshed.

What a beautiful product it is!

Here, in the photos above, you can see the interesting oil-in-serum texture. Note the little bubbles of oil. In respect of the bubbles, you will not feel them "bursting", they just melt right into your skin.

Absorption time is super fast too. Also immediate. Skin feels hydrated and refreshed and there is no tacky feeling. Just pure silky smoothness.

The Active Ingredients are:

  • Organic Immortelle essential oil from Corsica, known for its anti-ageing properties, encapsulated in fine golden bubbles.

  • Extract of Acmella Oleracea and Marjoram, which help to instantly smooth the skin and activate its recovery mechanisms.

  • A new complex of natural botanical extracts selected for the eye contour area, to help reduce signs of fatigue

  • Caffeine, to help reduce the look of dark circles and puffiness, and give tired-looking skin a boost

The L'OCCITANE Immortelle Divine Eye Balm and Immortelle Divine Eye and Lips Contour are fairly new products. Just released in April/May 2021.

Like the products above, a little goes a long way. These are luxury products that are worth the price because of the great results they give you. I've only used this as my only eye products for 2 weeks and I know that the results will only get better and better from continued use.

Review of L'OCCITANE Immortelle Divine Eye Balm

L'OCCITANE Immortelle Divine Eye Balm

The luxurious packaging is stunning to behold. The balm comes in a heavy glass pot with a gold top.

This one has a slightly stronger scent. Still smelling of the Immortelle, I can smell something like shea butter in it (which it does have in it as I later learnt).

Unlike the Precise Eye Balm, this has a cream texture (see texture shot below). Obviously, it will be a bit heavier than the gel like texture of the Precise Eye Balm. That being said, this does not have your typical balm texture. It is more of a cream because of the use of shea butter as one of its ingredients.

I found the best way of applying this was with my fourth finger, gently patting the cream onto the areas around my eyes. It did absorb almost immediately. It did not give me the "cooling" sensation but more of a calming sensation. I felt that it left the area around my eyes feeling very smooth and silky. Over the period of two weeks of testing this (I apply this in the morning), I did see noticeable lightening of my dark circles (above and below my eyes) plus a more smoother appearance. Also I got less eye bags.

If you are applying makeup on top of this, I would recommend waiting for a bit for it to absorb. Whilst my skin did drink this in, it was not as immediate as the Precise Eye Balm. Makeup did wear beautifully on top of this as well.

Moisture factor is very high. This will keep your eye area super comfy and hydrated for several hours until well into the night. I think this suits more mature skin.

The Active Ingredients are

  • 4 Immortelle extracts including Immortelle Super Extract (a more concentrated and higher quality of Immortelle oil), and

  • Nourishing Shea Butter:

L'OCCITANE Immortelle Divine Eye and Lips Contour

Review of L'OCCITANE Immortelle Divine Eye and Lips Contour

The L'OCCITANE Immortelle Divine Eye and Lips Contour is relatively new (as I noted above). This is from the L'OCCITANE Divine range which uses the Immortelle Super Extract (a more concentrated and higher quality of Immortelle oil).

This is a versatile product that you use around the areas of your eyes and around your lips!! As I've gotten older, I have become more concerned about the area around my lips. I guess, we often think we will age like our parents and I've noticed that mum did start getting lines around her lips. So, that is an area that I focus on now too to avoid getting those lines.

As with the other products, just a touch is enough. It is always a fine line between how much and too much to apply. With this product, one full pump is more than enough to cover the eye areas and the area around your lips. I also like to put a bit on my lips to smooth out the lines.

This has a light gel like texture (see texture photo below) and smells very faintly of Immortelle. It absorbs near instantly and your skin will feel refreshed.

Over the course of two weeks of using it, I noticed visibly smoother and plumper skin around my eyes and also around my lips. I would apply this product always in the morning around the lip area and alternate between the Divine eye balm and this one for the eyes.

I think the fact that it has the Immortelle Super Extract and works for two areas makes this a must-buy. This product works well under makeup as well like the ones above.

L'OCCITANE does also recommend applying this on your laugh wrinkles and crow’s feet.

The Active Ingredients is/are:

  • Immortelle Super Extract - 100% natural, to support skin’s architecture and helps increase skin’s density, boosting collagen synthesis, resulting in skin renewal and a thicker epidermis

This product is made of 97% natural-origin ingredients.

The packaging as you can see is luxurious. Comes in the bright yellow glass bottle with a gold cap. It feels good in the hand.

The full ingredients list:

AQUA/WATER - ROSA CENTIFOLIA FLOWER WATER - GLYCERIN - CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE - BUTYLENE GLYCOL - SILICA - PROPANEDIOL - POLYGLYCERYL-6 DISTEARATE - OENOTHERA BIENNIS (EVENING PRIMROSE) OIL - BUTYROSPERMUM PARKII (SHEA) BUTTER - HELICHRYSUM ITALICUM FLOWER OIL - HELICHRYSUM ITALICUM FLOWER/STEM EXTRACT - HELICHRYSUM ITALICUM EXTRACT - CAMELINA SATIVA SEED OIL - BORAGO OFFICINALIS SEED OIL - ACMELLA OLERACEA EXTRACT - ECHIUM PLANTAGINEUM SEED OIL - IRIS FLORENTINA ROOT EXTRACT - HELIANTHUS ANNUUS (SUNFLOWER) SEED OIL - MYRTUS COMMUNIS OIL - ADENOSINE - ESCIN - JOJOBA ESTERS - SODIUM POLYACRYLATE - METHYL METHACRYLATE CROSSPOLYMER - POLYGLYCERYL-3 BEESWAX - CETYL ALCOHOL - TOCOPHERYL ACETATE - SODIUM STEAROYL GLUTAMATE - ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN - SUCROSE PALMITATE - DISODIUM EDTA - GLYCERYL LINOLEATE - SODIUM BENZOATE - CITRIC ACID - TOCOPHEROL - CHLORPHENESIN - POTASSIUM SORBATE - LIMONENE

Overall Thoughts:

Not everyone can afford all four. I certainly can't on my limited disposable income. So I thought I would rank them for you in order of what you should try first.

  1. L'Occitane Immortelle Reset Eye Serum (I love this, this magical all around)

  2. L'Occitane Immortelle Divine Eye and Lips Contour (comes second because it is so versatile, hence great value for money)

  3. L'Occitane Immortelle Precious Eye Balm (really gorgeous, actually ranks equal second)

  4. L'Occitane Immortelle Divine Eye Balm [this is more suited for mature skin (I'm not quite there yet, almost, soon)]

However, if you can only purchase one product and will have to wait for quite some time before buying more, I would say go with the L'Occitane Immortelle Divine Eye and Lips Contour as it contains the Immortelle Super Extract.
